Increasing Food Supply

No one in Canada should ever go hungry. That’s why we make every effort to acquire and distribute food, facilitate cost-effective procurement and provide emergency response support when needed.

Program Areas

Food Acquisition, Transformation & Distribution

We acquire quality food, transform it as needed to extend shelf life and yield, and distribute it across the network through the National Food Sharing System. This work ensures support is shared based on levels of food insecurity across the country.

Purchasing Facilitation

We leverage our national partnerships and digital platforms to facilitate access to cost-effective food, supplies and services.

Emergency Response

We coordinate emergency response efforts to provide food support for communities affected by disasters.

Program Initiatives

We’re always pursuing innovative ways to respond to Canada’s food insecurity crisis, to ensure everyone who visits a food bank gets the nutrition they need.

Retail Food Program

Our Retail Food Program connects retail grocery stores with local food banks to ensure food that isn’t sold can be distributed to those in need.

After the Bell

After the Bell provides nutritious, child-friendly food packs during summer when school-centred supports are not available.

Emergency Response

Our Emergency Response initiative provides an immediate response to the food insecurity crisis and provide relief to communities in desperate need.

Marketplace

Our digital platform, Marketplace, leverages the buying power of the national network to negotiate discounts of up to 25-50% from reputable vendors. These savings are then passed along to food banks.
